Choosing the Right Interior Paint Finish
Flat, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss? A quick guide to picking the right sheen for every room.
The color gets all the attention, but the finish is what makes paint look good and last. Here’s the cheat sheet.
Flat / matte
Hides wall imperfections best, but it’s the hardest to clean. Great for low-traffic ceilings and adult bedrooms.
Eggshell
The everyday favorite — a soft, low sheen that wipes down reasonably well. Perfect for living rooms, dining rooms, and hallways.
Satin
A step shinier and more scrubbable. Ideal for kids’ rooms, bathrooms, and busy spaces that need to take a beating.
Semi-gloss / gloss
Tough and moisture-resistant, with a noticeable shine. Use it on trim, doors, cabinets, and high-splash areas.
