How to Fix a Running Toilet (in 15 Minutes)

Usually it’s the flapper
Nine times out of ten, the rubber flapper at the bottom of the tank has worn out and isn’t sealing. Shut off the water, drain the tank, unclip the old flapper, and snap a new one on. Bring the old one in and we’ll match it.
Sometimes it’s the fill valve
If the water never stops filling, the fill valve may be stuck or worn. A universal fill valve is an easy swap with a wrench and ten minutes.
Check the chain and float
A chain that’s too short holds the flapper open; a float set too high overflows into the tube. Both are free adjustments.
